The commuter flight that crashed on Alaska sea ice last week, killing all 10 aboard, was part of the workhorse network of short-hop flights that people in the immense and rugged state rely on to get to medical appointments,

The 10 Alaskans killed in the crash near Nome include a mentor to new teachers, a school counselor and two Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium employees traveling to service a local water plant.

The Cessna Caravan was flying from Unalakleet to Nome when it went down on Thursday. The crash victims ranged in age from 30 to 58, and were from Anchorage, Eagle River, Nome, Unalakleet and Wasilla.
