Home-crowd favorite Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Madrid Open on Wednesday because of muscle injuries, saying he didn't want to risk making things worse ahead of the French Open. The third-ranked Spaniard said he has not fully recovered from the upper leg ailment that bothered him during the Barcelona Open final Sunday.

Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of his home tournament at the Madrid Open due to a leg injury. Alcaraz told a press conference in Madrid on Thursday that he has been forced to withdraw. The Spaniard required treatment during his Barcelona Open final defeat to Holger Rune last weekend and subsequently underwent MRI tests.

As was expected, the two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the home Madrid Masters. Carlos injured his right adductor during Sunday's Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune, requiring a medical timeout and falling in straight sets.
