Officials have reopened the channel connecting the Port of Baltimore to the Atlantic Ocean after closing it to protect vessels from a hatch cover that blew off a bulker in an explosion. The Port of Baltimore said on Tuesday afternoon that the Fort McHenry Federal Channel had been reopened.
A ship caught fire in the Patapsco River on Monday, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department. Officials said an under-deck fire caused smoke to billow into the air. It has not been confirmed as an explosion. There are no reported injures.
