The board of the capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which met on Monday, approved a slew of changes in rules governing primary and secondary markets along with mutual funds and FPIs but kept mum on any matter related to disclosures & conflict of interest related to chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.

While conflict of interest allegations were never part of the official board meeting agenda, a clause in the Sebi rule book that ‘any significant event since the previous meeting concerning the market can be taken note of by the board’ had sparked speculation that the board would take up the issue.

Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband have denied all the allegations. They said they have complied with all the disclosures of SEBI, and that when she had joined the regulator as a whole-time member in 2017, she had disclosed the details of shareholding in Agora Advisory and Agora Partners.
