But the move created a logjam also involving Nico Hoerner and Matt Shaw, and now the Cubs risk making a big mistake. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the San Francisco Giants are "aggressively pursuing" a second baseman and are "engaged" with the Cubs in trade talks about Hoerner.

There has been plenty of speculation on Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw and his future with the team after his rookie season. Shaw finished the year with .a 226 batting average and .295 on-base percentage. Shaw struggled badly in the first months of the season.
