PILGRIMS on Thursday had the first-ever view of the sacred Kailash peak, believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, from the Old Lipulekh pass inside the Indian territory. The Old Lipulekh pass is situated in the Vyas valley of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand and it carries immense religious significance.
A historic first: Pilgrims gaze at Mount Kailash from Indian Soil!
Pilgrims viewed the sacred Kailash peak from the Old Lipulekh pass inside India for the first time. Five pilgrims trekked 2.5 km and were emotionally overwhelmed at this historic sight. The trip was part of a pilot project by the Uttarakhand tourism department since the pilgrimage through Tibet has been suspended due to COVID-19.

The first batch of pilgrims started on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2 (Wednesday) and witnessed the majestic Mount Kailash on Thursday, from Old Lipulekh Peak along with Om Parvat, the news agency ANI reported citing the chief minister's office (CMO).
