With Election Day 2024 results in, Republican former President Donald Trump was again elected president. Trump won Alabama’s nine electoral votes over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and then secured the election.

Alabama voters are deciding who will represent a congressional district redrawn after a lengthy redistricting battle.

MOBILE, Ala. ( WALA) - Shomari Figures claimed victory Tuesday night, in the race for Alabama’s newly drawn second congressional district. Figures, who went up against Republican Caroleene Dobson, earned 54% of the vote, with the majority coming out of Mobile.

Shomari Figures will become the first Black person to hold the seat in Alabama after it was created after a Supreme Court battle.

As of 10:25 pm, with sixty of Alabama’s sixty seven counties reporting their vote tallies, NBC News is projecting that Democrat Shomari Figures has won the State’s newly redrawn Congressional District two.

The once safe Republican seat was reshaped after a federal court ruled Alabama had illegally diluted the power of Black voters. The non-partisan Cook Political Report ranks the new district, where Black voters make up nearly 49% of the voting-age population, as “likely Democrat.” But both campaigns have said the seat is competitive.
