The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Thursday that the government is taking steps to ensure the safety of and help affected communities following the phreatomagmatic eruption of Taal Volcano on Wednesday.

Taal Volcano erupted Wednesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Phivolcs reported that Taal volcano had a phreatomagmatic eruption, which happens when erupting magma comes into contact with water.
