Employers added 42,000 jobs in October, better than economists had expected, private payroll firm ADP said on Wednesday. The report comes as the government’s jobs report scheduled for release on Friday is likely to be delayed because of the government shutdown, now the longest on record.
The U.S. shed an average of 11,250 private-sector jobs a week in the four weeks ended Oct. 25, ADP said. The payroll processor said the data suggested “the labor market struggled to produce jobs consistently during the second half of the month.”
