OTTAWA — Chrystia Freeland is running to be the next leader of the Liberal party and prime minister of Canada. She said in a statement posted on social media Friday morning she will launch her campaign officially on Sunday. “I’m running to fight for Canada,” she said in the one-sentence statement.

In a sparsely worded post on the social media platform X, the former finance minister and deputy prime minister said simply that she's "running to fight for Canada."

Less than five weeks after she resigned her cabinet seat over a dispute with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Chrystia Freeland has launched her campaign to replace him as the leade
