The Nikkei Stock Average rose by 1.1%, finishing at 38474.90. Among the gainers in the electronics segment, Sony climbed 2.02%, NEC increased by 3.04% and Canon gained 1.6%. In the banking sector, Mizuho Financial rose by 1.1%, while Mitsubishi UFJ Financial added 0.2%.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 34 points, or 0.1%. S&P 500 futures were also up 0.1%, and Nasdaq 100 futures were rising 0.2%. All three indexes closed down on Monday.
