Although the ancient city of Nicaea lies in ruins and the geographic center of Christianity has shifted West, Pope Leo XIV and Christian leaders gathered at an archaeological site in Turkey to celebrate the enduring faith set out in the Nicene Creed.
On his second day in Lebanon, Pope Leo hailed the country as an example of tolerance and urged Christian and interfaith leaders to continue working to maintain a peaceful coexistence in a region where religions tensions are often acute.
The Pope in his address began by calling Lebanon a “blessed land, exalted by the prophets of the Old Testament, who beheld in its towering cedars emblems of the righteous soul that flourishes beneath heaven’s vigilant gaze.”
