Pope Leo XIV has a message for Americans celebrating Thanksgiving. While speaking with NBC's Molly Hunter on Nov. 25, the Chicago native shared what he hopes people remember during the annual holiday.
The best way to describe him is as the anti-polarization pope. His biggest issues are peace and unity. He knows he’s operating in a context where very few world leaders are talking that way. It’s not a collaborative world. He’s looking at a polarized landscape and responding to it.
Stephen Colbert didn’t get the opportunity to interview Pope Francis before the latter’s death in April, but he does have his sights set on another agent of the papacy: Pope Leo XIV. As he put it, the Pope could travel to Chicago and the pair could “get some deep dish” pizza together.
