The Powerball jackpot has surged to a monstrous $1.5 billion — the fifth-largest in the game’s history —ahead of the holidays after no ticket matched all six winning numbers drawn on Wednesday night. The winning numbers for the estimated $1.27 billion jackpot were 25, 33, 53, 62 and 66, with red Powerball 17.
Two Powerball tickets worth $200,000 and one worth $50,000 were purchased in New Jersey for Monday night’s lottery drawing. The $200,000 tickets were both sold in Parsippany, Morris County. One was purchased at a Wawa on New Road and the other at the Shell gas station on Route 46 east, lottery officials said.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize. The odds of winning are 1 in over 292 million, according to Powerball.
According to a press release sent by the Pennsylvania Lottery themselves, three winning Powerball with Power Play pickets were chose from Monday, Dec. 15’s drawing. These tickets which were worth $200,000 each for a total of $600,000 in winnings for the day.
A Pennsylvania Lottery retailer in Beaver County sold a Powerball ticket worth $2 million for the Dec. 13 drawing, lottery officials said.
