On New Year's Day, the lake effect snow will continue off of lakes Erie and Ontario. That new snow could bring the total snowfall to 1 to 3 feet in places like Orchard Park in upstate New York. In the West, the rain will become more widespread, falling all day on Thursday in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Portland and Seattle.
A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 10:14 p.m. for lake effect snow bands until Tuesday at 2 a.m. for Northern Clinton, Northern Centre, Southern Centre and Southern Clinton as well as Potter and Cameron counties.
Tomorrow will be cold and blustery with localized lake snow showers. Any snow showers won't be too heavy but winds will still be gusting over 40mph at times causing blowing snow. Most of the snow showers will be focused to higher elevations. Highs will be in the mid 20s but wind chills will be in the single digits throughout the day.
