The Minnesota Vikings added a veteran quarterback to their practice squad amid J.J. McCarthy's absence due to an ankle sprain.
Wentz will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a left shoulder injury he originally suffered Oct. 5 while playing in place of injured starter J.J. McCarthy. Wentz has been playing through a dislocated shoulder that included a torn labrum and fractured socket, a source told ESPN on Monday, confirming multiple reports.
There was little consternation in Minnesota when the state’s favorite professional sports team decided not sign a veteran quarterback to tutor, or at least babysit, J.J. McCarthy through his first real NFL season.

Vikings Signing QB John Wolford to Practice Squad
In 2023, Wolford signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and spent time on their practice squad. He went through camp with the Bucs in 2024 but was released following training camp. He then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars late in the season and went through their training camp in 2025, but was released.
