Kane became only the 20th player to score four in a single Champions League game, surpassing Wayne Rooney as England's all-time leading scorer in the competition in the process, as Bayern München opened up in style with a 9-2 win at home to the Croatian champions.

“Harry Kane suffered a painful blow to his ankle in Saturday's top Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen,” a club statement read. “Examinations by FC Bayern's medical department on Sunday showed a positive development. Kane will continue to receive intensive treatment.”

Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, provided a positive update on Kane on Tuesday. Kane has scored 10 goals in seven appearances this season, including four against Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener. “He feels very good,” Eberl said. “But I am not a doctor, I cannot make any conclusions.”
