Iran’s supreme leader is said to be pushing Hezbollah towards a ceasefire with Israel as US mediators head to Lebanon to try to broker a deal.

A top Iranian official has pledged his country's unwavering support for Lebanon after talks with Lebanese leaders on the Israel-Hezbollah war.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has reportedly urged Hezbollah to accept a ceasefire agreement that would require the group to remain north of the Litani River in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has appeared to encourage Tehran to convince Hezbollah, which it supports, to agree to a deal that could require the militant group to withdraw from the Israel-Lebanon border.

As a top adviser to Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei visited Lebanon for talks, Lebanese officials said a U.S. proposal for a cease-fire deal had been passed on to Hezbollah.

Lebanon's caretaker prime minister on Friday asked Iran to help secure a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hezbollah and appeared to urge it to convince the militant group to agree to a deal that could require it to pull back from the Israel-Lebanon border.
