Within the past several days over the 4th of July weekend, numerous shark sightings along New York beaches have kept swimmers temporarily out of the water. Officials say they have been monitoring the waters for sharks, including a stretch of Rockaway Beach in Queens where swimmers were temporarily ordered out of the water due to sightings.

Rockaway beaches were once again temporarily closed after FDNY drones spotted a shark at Beach 102nd Street Sunday afternoon. Rockaway beaches from Beach 83rd to 120th were closed for swimming until 3:26 p.

The popular Rockaway Beach in Queens was briefly shuttered for a period of time on Friday and Saturday due to shark sightings.
