RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Jessica Pegula withdrew from her last match at the WTA Finals because of a left knee injury on Wednesday. The American, who lost her first two matches and was already eliminated from semifinal contention at the season-ending tournament, will be replaced in the Orange Group by first alternate and ninth-ranked Daria Kasatkina.

On September 29, 2024, Pegula won her last match, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, over Veronika Kudermetova in the Round of 32 of the China Open. In the past two years, Swiatek and Pegula have split their four head-to-head matches. The most recent one was on September 4, 2024, ending with Pegula winning 6-2, 6-4.
