Student's robot obliterates 4x4 Rubik's cube world record - MSN
A student's robot has beaten the world record for solving a four-by-four Rubik's cube – by 33 seconds. Matthew Pidden, a 22-year-old University of Bristol student, built and trained the ...
But no matter the cube, the process of solving one involves math — specifically, algorithms. Roman Chavez loved Rubik's Cubes so much, he founded the Jr. Oakland Cubers in high school.
Artificial intelligence, which may at some point automate your job and can already defeat professionals in six-player poker, is now able to solve Rubik's Cube faster than any human.
The Rubik's Cube is a multi-colored toy invented back in 1974. According to Business Insider, Erno Rubik, a Hungarian architect and design professor, invented the Cube, then named it after himself.
Mr Pidden's robot uses dual webcams to scan the cube, a custom mechanism to manipulate the faces, and a fully self-built solving algorithm to generate efficient solutions.
The robot solved the cube in 45.305 seconds, obliterating the world record of 1 minute 18 seconds. However, the human record for solving the cube is 15.71 seconds. "I was into Rubik's cubes as a kid.
