San Jose officials have narrowed down the list of candidates who might temporarily fill the vacant downtown seat on the City Council from 11 to five.

SAN JOSE — A tech company that had been in expansion mode in the Bay Area has disclosed plans for dozens of South Bay layoffs — and warned that more staff cuts may loom, state labor documents show. Renesas Electronics plans to trim 68 jobs in the South Bay, the company reported to the state Employment Development Department.

The site Ross Stores leased is within White Road Plaza, a retail and dining center. Sean O’Carroll and Ron Cruz, brokers with The Econic Co., a commercial real estate firm, are attempting to find tenants for the retail complex. O’Carroll and Cruz declined to comment about the situation.

Police chiefs in San Jose, Campbell and Mountain View will speak at 11:30, along with the Santa Clara County District Attorney and San Jose mayor.
