The actress won a Tony Award for “The Color Purple,” and is now nominated for an Oscar for playing Elphaba in the film adaptation of “Wicked.”

Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo, who has been earning awards left and right, has been picked to be the host of the Tony Awards.

Cynthia Erivo wore a chic pinstripe suit and tie to the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, Feb. 22. The 'Wicked' star earned two nominations for this year's ceremony.

Cynthia Erivo will host the 78th Annual Tony Awards this June. This marks the first time hosting the ceremony for Erivo, who is a Tony Award winner for her starring role in the 2015 revival of The Color Purple,

Erivo is currently nominated for an Oscar for her role in Wicked, adapted from the Broadway musical and Gregory Maguire novel. She won a Tony for The Color Purple in 2016.

On Wednesday, the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing announced that Wicked star Cynthia Erivo will serve as host for this year's June 8th ceremony. Erivo is taking over for Ariana DeBose who hosted the previous three ceremonies, including 2023's writer-free Tony Awards during the WGA strike.
