European Union expects to face 15% US tariffs from Friday. But a key text still isn’t ready
The European Commission says it presumes the United States will impose a 15% tariff on most EU exports from Friday.
The European Union could not say when a joint statement on tariffs with the United States would be ready, nor when the White House would issue an executive order on European car import duties, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
On July 27, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission and President Trump agreed to a deal that included a 15% tariff on most goods from the EU.
The requirements for travel vary based on the destination. The U.K. says U.S. citizens need to get electronic travel authorizations ahead of their flights. The EU will eventually require Americans to do the same, but the deadline has been pushed back. The U.S. has long made foreign travelers complete authorizations ahead of their trips.
