The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees says a top Hamas commander killed in Lebanon Monday was one of its employees but had been suspended since allegations of his ties to the militant group emerged in March.

Hamas' leader in Lebanon is the latest Palestinian militant group commander killed there by Israeli airstrikes in recent days, including Hezbollah's longtime chief, Hassan Nasrallah.

Israel has hit targets across Lebanon and killed 1,030 people over the past week according to the country's Health Ministry, as Lebanese-based militant group Hezbollah sustained heavy blows to its command structure including the killing of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
