Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) announced his run on Thursday to replace Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for the Senate next year. Reports surfaced earlier this month that Roy was considering a bid for the statewide office.

It will be the first test of whether Roy’s at times frosty relationship with Trump — and turn against Paxton — can withstand scrutiny in a statewide primary.
