The National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Rafael will grow into a major Category 3 storm Wednesday before it strikes Cuba and moves into the Gulf of Mexico, while the Florida Keys remain under a tropical storm warning.

Hurricane Rafael, now a powerful category 3 storm, was bearing down on western Cuba Wednesday afternoon. As of the 1 p.m. update, Rafael had already begun slashing the island nation, which has recently been struggling with prolonged power outages.
