Archdiocesan Marian Shrine of the Birhen sa Cotta The image was brought to Ozamiz either during the construction of the fort in 1756 or after it was finished. The fort was built by Father Jose Ducos, SJ, to serve as an outpost of Spanish suzerainty in Muslim Mindanao.

Outside of the fort's south wall is the Archdiocesan Marian Shrine of the Birhen sa Cotta, which is dedicated to the city's patron, Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción y del Triunfo de la Cruz de Migpangi. The shrine is a well known pilgrimage site in city.

The Birhen sa Cotta remains as one of the most visited religious sites of the faithful in Mindanao. The miraculous statue of the Birhen sa Cotta was brought to the City in the 1700s and was originally housed in the Cotta Fort and then transferred to the Immaculate Concepcion Church.
