Did you know that great blue herons nest together in “rookeries,” of up to 50 nests? These long, graceful birds often use the same rookery year after year. Nests are made from sticks, moss, and other natural material, with the birds adding a bit more each year. After laying their eggs, the hatchlings emerge after about 28 days, keeping their parents busy providing food until they leave the nest about 90 days later.
