The Burning of Cork, December 1920 T This Scene shows the devastation of Patrick Street. The city centre was destroyed in the Black and Tan reprisal burnings on 11 & 12 December 1920, after an IRA ambush on an Auxiliary patrol. Firefighters stated that they were stopped from putting out the fires by the Black and Tans. The biggest conflagration in Cork in 300 years.
