Life Of Niccolo Machiavelli Niccolò Machiavelli (1469–1527) was a Florentine diplomat and political thinker of the Italian Renaissance. He served the republic from 1498–1512, undertaking missions to France and Cesare Borgia and organizing a citizen militia. After the Medici returned, he was dismissed and exiled to Sant’Andrea, where he wrote The Prince (1513) and later Discourses on Livy, The Art of War, and Florentine Histories.
